Turin – November 29 – INALPI ARENA

Out Friday, June 13, 1998, the new album by COEZ officially marks the singer-songwriter's return to pop sounds. This new record is steeped in the sounds and imagery of the 1990s, inspired by the music and stories that shaped the artist’s teenage years. With 1998, his seventh studio album, Coez returns to his roots to embark on a new introspective journey through the style that made him a key figure in contemporary Italian songwriting: a blend of intimacy and melancholy with pop and urban influences.

1998 is an album born from an exploration of the 1990s—a time when pop and its surrounding world were undergoing transformation, evolving and blending with various influences. The album evokes the unique atmosphere of those years, as seen through the lens of Coez's early experiences with life and music. These stories inspired the tracks and permeate the musical narrative of 1998.

From a sonic perspective, the album reconnects with the pop singer-songwriter genre that established Coez as a prominent name in the Italian music scene, drawing on the musicality and rhythms of the late '90s. 1998 is not just a nostalgic dive into the past, but an authentic journey through the emotions and experiences that shaped the artist, all while remaining true to his origins. Coez’s writing stands out for its ability to merge everyday life and personal experiences with poetic imagery that captures the contradictions of the human soul. Using direct yet never simplistic language, the artist reflects on melancholy, loneliness, and uncertainty, but also the desire for redemption that runs throughout the album.

The tracklist of 1998 opens with Nessun Tramonto, a ballad that sets the mood for the rest of the album. Qualcosa di grande tells the story of dreams and hopes that ultimately confront reality. The album continues with Dentro al Fumo, produced by Davide Simonetta, an urban-sounding track where Coez tries to make sense of a life often fragmented and chaotic. Non dire no shifts back to a more emotional and personal tone, blending sweetness and melancholy in a plea for understanding, brought to life by a musical crescendo that underscores the artist’s confessions.

At the nostalgic heart of the album is Estate 1998, a powerful track that takes us back to the ‘90s with punk vibes, suburban squares, and runaway teens—a vivid snapshot of the most formative years of Coez’s life. Mal di te and Ti manca l’aria are the two singles that preceded the album: the first is more classic, reflecting a painful and familiar everyday life; the second is more ethereal and intimate, a ballad about the struggles of separation. In Roma di notte, Coez joins Franco126 and Tommaso Paradiso for a bittersweet love letter to the capital, where the city becomes a mirror and accomplice to their confused nights.

Next are two tracks produced by Bergamo-based musician and producer okgiorgio (Giorgio Pesenti), introducing a sharper edge to the album: Mr. Nobody, full of sarcasm and pain, tells a story of alienation and broken dreams; while Senza te conveys a sense of emptiness and dissonance, like a soul out of place. Inverno 1998 picks up and completes the summer story with colder and more aware tones—a sort of youthful epilogue tinged with growth and disillusionment. The final track, Il tempo vola, is a melancholic farewell, reflecting on waiting and the inevitable passage of time, carried by a dark, enveloping beat that closes 1998.

The album is available in CD, autographed CD, and three vinyl editions: standard black, autographed yellow, and a deluxe version with an alternative, autographed, and numbered cover.
