TWIRLING 2025

It will be a hot start to August, and not just in terms of the weather, as Turin will once again take center stage in the world of sports.

From August 2 to 10, the city will host the twirling spectacle: a multifaceted event, as three different competitions will coexist within the same framework. The World Twirling Championship for technical specialties, which will take over from the previous one held in 2023 in Liverpool; the Majorettes World Championship; and the Nations Cup for clubs.

Each day will see the awarding of titles, and as a result, emotions will overlap, making the event from August 2 onwards one of immense interest, not only for industry professionals but also for the general public who will have the opportunity to experience these disciplines live.

In total, around 2,400 athletes from 19 countries will compete. Some of these countries are geographically distant, such as Australia, the United States, Japan, and Canada, but they are no less connected in their passion for twirling.

Italy will be eager to perform well, with a large and highly qualified team of athletes, selected at various pre-world stages by the coaches of the Italian Twirling Federation, led by Gianfranco Porqueddu, a man of sport with years of experience: “It is a great honor for us to organize and host such a significant event,” says the president. “Even more so to do so at the express request of the International Twirling Federation (IBTF), which was officially established in 2023, replacing the previous WBTF. This is a ‘reward’ for the success of the 2022 World Championship, also held in Turin at the PalaRuffini. The organizational machine is up and running, and the team is united, ready to deliver a great edition, paying attention to both detail and substance.”

The Italian twirling movement has around 4,000 registered members and 87 specialized sports clubs, with a strong presence in Piedmont. Turin previously hosted the Twirling World Championship in 1986 and a European Championship in 2011. Ticket sales will begin soon, while the accommodation section is already fully operational, as many delegations will accompany the athletes. For example, the French delegation is expected to exceed 500 participants.

Sports, entertainment, and tourism will merge during a period when Turin and Piedmont will showcase all their beauty. On August 3, the Presentation Ceremony and the athletes' party will take place. The ceremony will also be attended by key national and regional sports and institutional authorities, highlighting the significance of the event.
